Old Admin Tool

If you ever used the old Windows Admin GUI from 3.1-3.7 then you might have liked some of the features, what I was wondering was why didn't someone write something similar in Java? Since it would then work cross platform it makes sense to write an Admin tool in Java. Keep it small and simple and we'd all be happy.

    I start to believe that only two of us have problems with the new TSM administration... :-)

    The server features were changing too rapidly for a client-side admin program to keep up with. The admin GUI got replaced by the admin web interface (which got replaced by ISC & admin center). Unfortunately, they didn't completely remove the hooks for the admin GUI, at least not the last time I "checked". If you accidentally use "f=g" or "format=gui" instead of f=d, you'll get garbage on your screen and possibly hang dsmserv. :(
    I hear the 5.4 admin center is much better. Personally, I only use dsmadmc.

    We're still using the old web gui. We can't stand the new Admin Interface. IBM said they're trying to tie all their products together w/ a similar interface. That's nice, but we only use TSM. At least they said they'll continue to support the web gui.

    I still use the old GUI... nothing beats it for looking at volumes since it supports sorting with one click. But for most other things, I'm only using the dsmadmc. The ISC is just too slow and cumbersome to be an actual admin tool.

    The goal was to unify under the ISC with all IBM products but last I heard most of the app groups have abandoned ISC due to its performance issues. If I am wrong please someone correct me but I don't know of that many IBM apps other than TSM that switched to it.
