How Tivoli Can Fix The ISC

I thought about it and instead of just complaining I figured I'd offer my two cents. The beauty of the old web interface was that it was simple and fast at refreshing (usually). The new ISC is slow in this regard, and that is where the problem lies. The idea of a central monitoring tool is wonderful. The problem is in the response time. OK! So how can they fix it? AJAX! Yes with Asynchronous Javascript And XML there would be no reloads. Updates would happen dynamically and the ISC Admin Center would actually be amazing! Don't believe me? Look at what a lot of the Web 2.0 apps are using, that's right AJAX! It's turns a ho-hum web app into a true desktop app that you would forget is running in your browser. Is it in the works? My bets are on NO! But, hey someone has to have dreams!

  1. Hi. I'm using ISC and sincerely the problem is not only in the response time. Yes, this is a problem for usability. But the underlying paradigm is wrong. I'm talkin about those automatic procedures to configure and admin everything. They simply don't work for everyday jobs.
Give me back the GREAT OLD WEB INTERFACE!

    ISC should be trashed immediately.

  2. I think the ISC is nice for setting up maintenance jobs, thats it. THE managing tool for tsm (besides the console) is tsm manger..

  3. I'm suprised people are singling the praises of the web admin interface, let alone the ISC!

I've always used the command line, I find it quicker and easier. I tried to use the web interface, but it seemed to be organised in a strange way, and you could never quite do all you can on the command line.

  4. Well, it depends on HOW you use the old web. First click I do is "Show command line" option :)
Advantage I see here is better formated output.

  5. I am having a HARD time understanding the ISC, and its part with the Admin Center. My problem is getting the administrator the PROPER rights in doing things (like modifying, creating, etc.). The new Admin Center is a pain also, but, I think I can swim through the muck and find some stuff,....and not to mention, the instructions for configuring the ISC is sooooo bland and non-directional, it could wither wicker furniture.

Anyway, I just need some help with it, and IBM Support cannot offer it.
